Neandertal is a new conceptual perfume brand, founded by the artist Kentaro Yamara. This brand has two modern and unique fragrances in beautiful handmade bottles, created by its founder.

Together with perfumer Euan McCall, they decided to create a brand dedicated to the life of the mysterious beings Neanderthals, which disappeared from the Earth around 30 000 years ago, after the arrival of modern humans.

They also raise a question of the past and future of people.

Today I’ll review Neandertal Perfumes, Light and Dark fragrances.

Both fragrances, Dark and Light, are united by the hot mineral accord, inspired by the flint aroma during the knapping process.

Together with precious natural ingredients, that can be found across the areas, which are considered to have been zones of Neanderthals habitation, this flint aroma transfers us to the mysterious era.

Each bottle of Neandertal perfume is a piece of art. It is made from stoneware, slip cast from a flint snapped hand-axe, then fired and verified at over 1400°C.

Fragrance Review of Neandertal Perfumes

Neandertal Dark

This perfume is rich in notes. It begins with the fresh and strong scent of green leaves and spices. After a while, a warm and enveloping note of incense mutes down the bright opening of Dark fragrance and a deep woody-leathery accord appears.

The note of leather dominates in this accord and makes Dark fragrance very expressive and powerful. Nevertheless, the note of Oud gives this perfume its heady, dark and mysterious woody scent, that is softened by the note of warm and sensual amber.

Musk brings to this fragrance its passionate scent with a light sweetness, while the note of tobacco makes the sound of Dark fragrance deeper and even more evocative.

The note of vetiver gives this perfume its smoky accent, while labdanum makes Dark fragrance enveloping and balsamic.

This perfume is very expressive from the beginning but calmer and smokier to the end. The main accent of Neandertal Dark is leathery-woody with smoky nuances.

This perfume is very interesting and uncommon and it will be a great fragrance for those who love leathery scents.

Neandertal Dark is like the night in the cave of the tribe of Neanderthals. This night is dark, at times dangerous and unpredictable. The scent of burned wood is in the air. And only the fire gives the warmth and hope for one more calm night, and maybe for the future.

Notes: Foliage, Ginger, Pink Pepper, Grapefruit, Pine, Incense, Geranium, Caraway, Seaweed, Vetiver, Patchouli, Oud, Amber, Musk, Leather, Sandalwood, Tobacco, Labdanum Absolute.

If it were a place, it would be a cave.

If it were a color, it would be black.

If it were one word, it would be wild.

Neandertal Light

This perfume opens with an impressive grassy-woody accord with spicy nuances. The note of Hinoki, a Japanese cypress, gives this fragrance its beautiful woody aroma with almost invisible citrus accents, while coriander makes the opening of Light fragrance a little piquant.

Galbanum gives this perfume its expressive and multifaceted grassy aroma with bitter and balsamic accents. The note of violet leaf makes the grassy sound of Light fragrance even more expressive.

The heart of this perfume consists of a very contrasting duo. The note of orris gives its tender powdery scent with a light sweetness, while the metallic accord brings to Light fragrance slight coldness and character.

The base of this perfume is represented by the deep woody-leathery accord that is softened by the sensual notes of ambergris and musk.

Neandertal Light is very attractive and unusual fragrance with the name that speaks for itself. It is radiant and weightless perfume.

It is not the cave of Neanderthals, but something more contemporary. It is like the city full of modern people, which are the keepers of a mystery of the Neanderthals, even if they don’t know about it.

Or it is like the shiny piece of metal, that was left somewhere in the wild.

Notes: Hinoki, Coriander, Galbanum, Violet Leaf, Orris, Metallic Accord, Ambergris, Patchouli, Leather, Cedar, Musk.

If it were a place, it would be an urban landscape.

If it were a color, it would be silver.

If it were one word, it would be odd.

It was my fragrance review of Neandertal Perfumes, Light and Dark fragrances, and I hope you enjoyed it.
