L ‘Orchestre Parfum is a French niche perfume brand founded by Pierre Guguen and inspired by synesthetic ideas of Russian composer and pianist Alexander Scriabin (1871-1915).

This brand creates unique fragrances, based on the memories of traveling of its founder Pierre Guguen. His friends create music, that reflects these memories and fragrances.

You can discover and enjoy scents and music in tandem. Today I’ll review The Darbouka L’Orchestre Parfum and tell you a little about the unique person Alexander Scriabin.

Synesthesia

Synesthesia is a perceptual phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory leads to automatic experiences in a second sensory.

Alexander Scriabin had a chromesthesia or sound-to-color synesthesia. It is when you can see which color is music or sound. Alexander Scriabin wanted to create a symphony of all arts: sounds, colors, scents, words, architecture.

It could be a unique experience, but the composer died quite suddenly.

Alexander Scriabin and his Mysterium

Alexander Scriabin was a very talented person. He could not only write music but see which color that music was. And he really felt the music and knew, how to make his music to get inside the hearts.

Music of Alexander Scriabin is thrilling, emotional, deep and diverse. His music is a joyful, sadness and life in all its forms.

Mysticism played an important role in his life. It also can be seen in the names and themes of his works: The Divine Poem (1904), The Poem of Ecstasy (1908), Prometheus: The Poem of Fire (1910).

But his most important work was not completed. Grand week-long performance «Mysterium» with music, movements, colors, and scents, that should mark the beginning of the new world and unite the Spirit and the Matter.

We can only guess what could that performance be, and what could be the main goal of the great composer. Probably, to create a world full of harmony, happiness, and peace.

Listening to his music, I think that everything is united in this world and that we are creatures and creators at the same time.

We need to understand and to discover our divine essence. And when we are able to enjoy the moment in its entirety with sounds, colors, scents, words, and feelings, we will be ready to experience our mysterious Universe.

Perfume Review of The Darbouka L’Orchestre Parfum

The Darbouka brings us to the hot and dry Sahara. Here we can meet with nomads, which introduce to us the sound of the desert – rhythms of the darbouka drum.

This drum creates exciting sound and transfers us into a mystery eastern world. Click here to listen to the darbouka drum music created for L’Orchestre Parfum by Nicolas Leroy.

This perfume is like an oriental caravan, traveling across the desert, with a rich scent of spices, sweets, and wooden goods.

The Darbouka opens with the expressive scent of sour-sweet candid fruits surrounded by the refreshing note of bergamot. Cumin gives this fragrance its unique spicy aroma with pleasant sweet accents.

The heart of this perfume includes the note of everlasting flower, that gives The Darbouka its multifaceted scent with fruity and tobacco nuances.

The base of this perfume is represented by the sensual and seductive trio of cocoa, Oud and styrax notes.

Alexandre Gabriel Decamps, The Caravan, c.1854

The Darbouka is very beautiful and uncommon niche fragrance for women and for men. This spicy-woody perfume will warm and envelop you with the attractive and tantalizing cloud.

Despite the sweet notes, The Darbouka perfume is not too sweet. Instead, the sweetness of this perfume is gentle and very charming.

Notes: Bergamot, Cumin, Candied Fruits, Everlasting Flower, Oud, Cocoa, Styrax.

If it were a place, it would be an oriental bazaar.

If it were a color, it would be soft brown with gold.

If it were one word, it would be sensual.
